Covenant Christian School Grading Philosophy
(See other grade level sites for teacher grading philosophy and methodology)
Just as Covenant Christian School's programs and methods of instruction are dependent on a Biblical philosophy, so also the school's grading philosophy. This grading philosophy will provide a Biblical viewpoint, general background truth, and principles for interpreting the facts encountered in the study of all subjects. The philosophy of grading at CCS is based on the school's educational philosophy, goals, and objectives.
The primary spiritual goal of CCS is to educate students to successfully integrate Christian character and philosophy into their total life. Grading should reflect this goal through the demonstration of Christ-like fairness, accuracy, and compassion with consideration of the thoroughness of instruction, teacher weaknesses and shortcomings, and the learning style and capabilities of students.
The intellectual goal of CCS mandates that a learner's performance be judiciously measured according to a climate conducive for learning, the extent to which skills prepare students for meaningful participation in society as an adult, and the extent to which the grading communicates student competency and increased ability to make mature decisions.
The social goals of CCS encourage a grading philosophy that assists students in understanding and appreciating the rewards of work well done. Students understand the responsibility of working thoroughly and diligently in order to please the Lord and others while recognizing the privilege of living in a social democracy. CCS teachers will communicate their grading philosophy and ensuing grading methodology while working harmoniously with parents to assist students in reaching mutually agreed goals that support achievement.
CCS's cultural programs reflect a grading philosophy with a fair assessment based on student appreciation and creativity in the arts while encouraging a Christ-centered student response for understanding and appreciating cultural styles different from their own. Physical education skills are assessed according to CCS's objectives for growth in performance and participation.
The responsibility of education lies with the family, the school, and the student; consequently, the grading philosophy and methodology should reflect a combination of all three. Ultimately, the grading philosophy of CCS should exhibit 1) the fruits of the Spirit and the character of Jesus Christ as evidenced in the lives of students, 2) student abilities and talents used to bring glory to Christ, and 3) a student, teacher, and parent mission of servanthood toward one another.
