Educational Philosophy/Goals/Objectives
Covenant Christian School's program and methods of instruction are dependent on a Biblical philosophy to provide the viewpoint, general background truth, and principles for interpreting the facts encountered in the study of all subjects. Those concepts of a Christian education philosophy are:
- God is the Creator and Sustainer of all things, and the source of all truth.
- God maintains control over His entire universe.
- Because of sin, man tends to omit God and thus fails to relate himself and his knowledge to the Source of all wisdom.
- Regeneration comes by grace through faith in Jesus Christ and is absolutely essential to salvation. True meanings and values can be ascertained only in the light of His Person, purposes and work.
- God has revealed Himself in a general way in His world and universe and a specific way in the Bible and through the presence of His Spirit in believers.
- The home, church, and school experience should complement each other by promoting the student's spiritual, academic, social, cultural, and physical growth.
- Learning to be submissive to parents and teachers is essential in learning obedience to God.
- God has created individuals whose levels of competence differ. It is the teacher's responsibility to challenge each child according to his ability and to seek to teach the student about the Lord at his academic level.
- The student's home, church, and school experience and training should not only be a preparation for tomorrow, but a lesson in how to live today.
- Prayer is a vital aspect of the life of a Christian as he learns to depend upon God for each need, realizing that the "effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much." (James 5:16)
- Christian education as a way of life in which the Living Word-Jesus Christ-and the written Word are to be integrated into the school's entire curriculum and all extracurricular activities.
